A love story that is worth telling :)
My parents (mom and stepdad) were both visiting at Christmas. We had a great time in between dinner and packing out presents on Christmas Eve I had a conversation with my stepdad and I asked him how my mom and him met.
He told me a great story about the two of them and coincidence which I wanted to share here:
Apparently my mother and my stepfather were dating long time before I was even planned. They had dated for 2 years when my stepfather found out that my mom was only 16 years old, making her 14 years old when they first started dating. Well, my stepfather was already 19 and so mad about the lie that they had broken up. My mother moved away shortly after this which happened in 1972.
Both of them went their own ways, my mother chose a not so good path while my stepfather got married to a woman who died in 2001 of cancer.
My stepfather said that in all this time he always had wondered what and how my mom was doing but he never saw her again.
About a year later - in 2002 - my moms stepfather who was still living in the same area had called him one night in a drunken stage lol and told him he had seen my mom and they should call each other.
My stepfather being unsure about this idea since they had not seen each other for 30 years he laid off the plan of calling her for a couple of days when one night the phone rang and my mom was on the line. He said his heart was pounding so hard that he did not know what to say.
My mom again had the idea for both of them to meet the following weekend so she gave him her work phone number for him to call when he got close to the city she was living in which is about 4 hours away.
He said when he finally made it to my home town he pulled up on the side of the road trying to call her for 2 full hours but nobody ever answered the phone. He already had thought that my mom blew him off and he started feeling awful. As he was on his way back home he decided to pull over just one more time right outside town and give it another try to call her.
This time someone really answered the phone. When he asked for my mom the lady on the other end said that he had called a hotel and that she was working there but there was no female with that name. My stepdad finally being completely discouraged was about to hang up the phone when that lady asked him what his name was. When he told her the name she replied that he had called a hotel room that was reserved in his name. My stepfather was stunned since he did not know anything about a hotel room.
She said, that she kept hearing the phone ring in the hotel room for ever but was not sure if she should answer it. After so long she told her boss that it must be a very important phone call and decided to answer the phone.
She quickly told him where the hotel was located and hung up the phone. My stepfather turned around still being unsure about the situation driving back into town when my mom called him and asked him where he was. She was mad because he never called lol
...coming to find out my stepfather had mistakenly switched the last two digits of the phone number which miracly turned up to be the phone number for the hotel room my mom had reserved for him without his knowledge lol
Needless to say this time the age difference did not matter and they both got married quickly living happily ever after :)
